The Importance of Water Safety: Sunday Club Events
We’d like to take a moment to remind all members about the critical role water safety plays in our Sunday morning club activities. Without adequate water safety numbers, we simply cannot run our events safely and effectively.
Each week, a call goes out through our Water Safety WhatsApp group, seeking IRB Drivers, Crew, and RWC operators to assist with Sunday events. Unfortunately, this season the response has been lower than usual, with the same dedicated members stepping up week after week. While their efforts are deeply appreciated, this is not a sustainable solution.
Looking ahead, several key individuals will be finishing up their roles with the club after this season. This makes now the perfect time for others to step in, learn from their experience, and develop their own skills to ensure we can continue providing a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone.
If we do not have powered craft available on the water during Sunday mornings, the following challenges will arise:
- No arena set-up for events
- Fewer numbers in the water for swim and board events
- Extended finish times, with activities potentially running past 12 noon
If you currently hold a qualification, we encourage you to reflect on the reason you attained it. The club has invested time and resources into your training and requalification, and your contribution to water safety is vital.
When everyone makes a contribution, we share the responsibility, making it more manageable and easing the burden on a small group of your fellow volunteers. If you are qualified and not yet part of the Water Safety WhatsApp group, please reach out to Dani on 0437 411 557 to be added.
Thank you in advance for stepping up and helping us ensure the safety and success of our Sunday morning activities and club activities. Together, we can keep our club events running smoothly and continue fostering a strong, supportive community.
