Woodside Nipper News

by | Tue, 20 Oct 2026 | General, Nippers

Remember how great it feels to be up and about at the beach on a Sunday morning, with a bunch of healthy, active and smiling fellow clubbies?
The sun is shining and the clear water is lapping. The surf is rolling onshore in lovely clean sets, while the breeze is gentle and offshore…
Your barista made coffee, and bacon & egg roll really hit the spot as you watch your kids having a BALL.
They will sleep well tonight…
That’s right folks, it’s almost Woodside Nippers season!
Let’s enjoy one more Sunday sleep-in before returning to Midds for the best Sunday Session in Albany!
*Please note, Albany Surf Life Saving Club takes no responsibility for sandy sandwiches, sunburnt plumbers bottoms, upended shade tents, ice-cream disasters, sand rash or wheels which have fallen off.

The inaugural Sundowner of the season kicks off at our beautiful newly completed clubhouse.
It’s all ages and family friendly- bring a picnic or purchase food and beverages at the club. Enjoy the sunset while reconnecting with fellow clubbies and welcoming new members.
Families can collect their Woodside Nippers kits, including age group caps and vests, at this event.

Tuesday Training

Tuesday training offers our Woodside Nippers the opportunity to gather for an extra dose of training fun!
Aimed at all registered Woodside Nippers aged U9 and up, there will be an emphasis on board paddling skills
and fitness (though each session is tailored to conditions), and includes a strong water safety focus.
No need to register.

If you have your NRC, or once you have completed your NRC, we would love to see you in the water with our Woodside Nippers.

Note to Parents and Guardians

A parent or guardian is required to remain on the beach for your Woodside Nipper’s session, both Sundays and Tuesdays.

It is highly recommended to get involved! Your Woodside Nipper’s Age Group Manager and Age Group Assistant will need support, and it’s fun!
You can help by carrying gear, doing head counts, mustering, moral support, recording, and supervision.

Volunteering

Parent volunteer roles include Water Safety (Nippers Rescue Certificate), officiating, canteen, bar, Age Group Managers and Age Group Assistants, set up and pack up, and many more!
Not sure how to help? Just ask! There are so many roles to suit every skill set.

Contact Meg nipperscomms@albanysurfclub.com.au or 0434934951 if you would like to find out more about volunteering- you won’t regret it!

Nippers Rescue Certificate (NRC)

Water Safety is a critical part of any Woodside Nippers session. Without our amazing volunteers in the water,
there wouldn’t be water activities!
Parents and Guardians are invited to do a short training session (NRC) which enables them to be in the water
with our kids, keeping them safe, along with our highly skilled Water Safety and Life Saving teams.
There will be an opportunity to complete your NRC in the first few weeks of the season.
What? The Nipper Rescue Certificate involves a short ocean swim of approximately 400m, a briefing on surf
safety hand and rescue signals, and a brief rescue role play scenario. It takes approximately 40 minutes and
is completed immediately after the Sunday morning Woodside Nippers session. Easy!
When and where? Watch this space…
*For those who completed their NRC last season, please note that it is valid until Dec 30, 2026. If you wish to
volunteer as Water Safety in 2027, you will need to complete your NRC again.
