On Saturday evening, 20 Albany SLSC members attended the SLSWA Awards of Excellence at Crown Perth to celebrate the achievements of surf lifesavers from across Western Australia and to recognise the incredible contributions made by volunteers throughout the season.

We were immensely proud to have finalists in 5 award categories. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate:

  • Helena Stoakley (Finalist Trainer of the Year)
  • Jeff Medcalf (Finalist Assessor of the Year)
  • The Migrant Program (Finalist Community Program of the Year)

While they may not have taken home the award in their respective categories, they are certainly winners in our eyes. Their dedication, commitment, and contribution to our club is outstanding, and we are grateful for everything they do.

A special congratulations to Paul Bairstow, who was named Age Group Manager of the Year. This recognition reflects the tireless work Paul has undertaken in the All Abilities space, driving our All Abilities Nipper program and creating opportunities for participation, inclusion, and growth for so many young people and families. Paul, we are incredibly proud of your achievements and the positive impact you continue to have in our club and community.

The highlight of the evening was Albany SLSC being named the prestigious Lavan Club of the Year Award!!

To receive this recognition is a tremendous honour and one that belongs to EVERY member of our club. This award was not won by a committee or a small group of individuals; it was won by all of you. Throughout the 2025/26 season, our members once again stepped up in the way they always do, generously volunteering countless hours to support the club and our community. In addition to our core surf lifesaving activities, members delivered a wide range of events and programs while contributing across patrols, support operations, surf sports, education and training, kiosk and bar operations, administration, member services, maintenance, and the many other tasks required to keep our club thriving.

This award is a testament to the dedication, passion, and commitment of our people, who consistently go above and beyond in support of our club and our community. It reflects the culture we have built together, one of service, teamwork, inclusion, and pride in what we do. We should all be incredibly proud of what we have achieved together this season. On behalf of the club, thank you to every volunteer, member, family, sponsor, and supporter who stepped forward and contributed throughout the year.

Your efforts make Albany SLSC the club it is today, and this award is recognition of the collective

impact we have when we work together.
