The Albany Surf Life Saving Club is seeking passionate volunteers to support our new Aquatic Education Programme for culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) residents and new arrivals.
With 19.2% of Albany residents born overseas — and nationally 39% of drowning fatalities involving people from CALD backgrounds — this programme is about breaking down barriers, building confidence, and saving lives.
Following a successful training session led by Helena Stoakley with an Adult Migrant Education group (in partnership with TAFE), we are now delivering practical surf awareness sessions — and we hope to make this an ongoing initiative.
We need volunteers who can:
- Assist during beach and water-based sessions
- Support participants with English as an Additional Language (EAL)
- Help create a welcoming and inclusive environment
- Share their surf safety knowledge and community spirit
No matter your role — water safety, first aid, education, or simply offering a friendly welcome — you can make a difference.
If you’d like to get involved, please contact Helena at firstaid@albanysurfclub.com.au or speak to her on the beach.
Together, we can ensure every new Albany resident feels confident, connected, and safe at our coast.
