Middleton Beach put on such a stunner of not just one day, but two days in a row, our Youth and Seniors were pleasantly shocked.
After the shock wore off, the Youth and Seniors team did good – they cheered on their team mates, got into the competition and gave it their best shot, reconnected with friends from other cubs, chilled in the club tent between races, ate a lot of lollies (and also some healthy food), talked race tactics (or maybe it was a bit of trash talking), commiserated together when things didn’t go to plan and celebrated when things did!
We had a great time, just some of the things captured –
- Michael reckons a swim race is relaxing. Pam knows better.
- Ben flew in from an IRB to jump onto a sprint relay team, good onya Ben!
- Billy, Louis and Ethan trudged between Water Arena 3 and Sprints a gazillion times, as officials marshalled the U14s for different events at the same time, then stood down, then re-marshalled, then stood down, then……… didn’t dampen the spirits though!
- Jordan brought the beats and joined Ashton with the ‘woohoo, didn’t come last’ vibes.
- Greg kept tabs on those other board paddlers……. he knows things.
- Beth and Lisa brought the calm, wise, experienced vibes to the tent.
- Kesia fought hard through 2 ties in the grand final of the carnival flags to decisively claim that #1 winning flag in the 3rd run.
- Rosalie kept showing up to run-run-run for sprints and relays, thanks Rosalie!
- Flynn keenly raced over the two days, and hung around for ages to compete in the carnival youth mixed beach relay, thankfully some team mates showed up to give him a hand after a long day on the sand.
- Malachi was much more spritely on day two and able to have a better crack at racing.
- Oli was around somewhere and did some competing, we’ve got photos to prove it.
- We missed Kiara on day two….. where for art thou Kiara? (Doing water safety of course!)
- Zach – swimming and snoozing – two great pastimes, joined by best buddy Pablo from Denmark.
- Ava was our superb #1 team assistant.
- Brave Mahayla gave it her all for day 1, but her knee wanted a rest on day 2.
- Mitch was everywhere – running in races and then volunteering in any gap to help out, what a champ.
- Pearl very cooly rocked the competitive spirit in her first season of surf life saving.
- Always elegant Meeya brought her style to the beach.
- Jez – first ski race ever, you’ll be beating dad in no time.
- Nick and Jason dragged out ol’ Dorothy the Dinosaur double ski from somewhere down in the bellows of the club. A rickety start was quickly overcome and Dorothy managed to get the duo home in 3rd place.
- Sophia joined by best buddy Meg from Busso (lets claim her as our own!), kept that beautiful smile up all day, over two long days…….. keep shining bright Sophia.
- Chelsea graced us with her presence for the Champs, but the boats beckoned on day two, and joined by Ruby, Sophie and Ava, the girls showed their class and knocked the socks off their rivals.
- The ever experienced Liesel cheekily jumped into the carnival flags comp, love ya style Liesel!
It was a pleasure to be on the beach with the team and parents. Lets do it again sometime!
The Youth and Seniors team offer their whole-hearted appreciation and thank you to the Club for holding the Championships and the Carnival – we thoroughly enjoyed competing on our home beach.
Thank you to the youth officials and the youth helping with Nippers, water safety and other areas, always a valued part of the team.
And a massive thank you to the amazing volunteers for all the work you did. We don’t know the full extent of everything but we do know it was an incredible effort by all involved. Thank you immensely, we hope you also enjoyed the weekend.
