Board Training

Please note the following updates further to the last month of board training posts, eg here:  Board Paddling at ASLSC and Surf Sports Training

Board Allocation

Club boards are going out the door fast!  Please continue to advise Greg at boardcaptain@albanysurfclub.com.au or Nick at surfsports@albanysurfclub.com.au or 0438 890 995 if you are keen and eligible to train and require a board.

The board training group is gathering momentum FAST … and since we have a limited number of club boards, but are without on-site storage, this requires careful management so that no one misses out!

We currently have the board trailer set up for a number of u14 training boards.  One of our coaches Jason Bresanello has kindly agreed to tow the trailer down for training sessions.  Thanks Bresa! During the season we will be asking for volunteers to share this task.  Covered storage is a must.

Nick or Greg will be ensuring board sign out sheets are completed over the coming weeks for those members entrusted with their care and transport.

Board Handling

We have had a number near misses and incidents of damage already.  The boards are expensive, custom built, fibreglass coated, chip and ding easily, are prone to damage by strapping too tightly and prolonged exposure to sun and heat, have metal components susceptible to rust … to list just a few!  Once the board starts soaking up water through surface damage and starts taking on water, they are extremely difficult to get dry, prolonging the fix period and keeping them out of rotation for longer.

Please always:

  • Handle and store with a lot of caution and thought!
  • Check your boards before they go on the water
  • Notify the Board Captain if damage the board
  • Check with the Board Captain if you’re unsure
  • Wash down your board

If you are allocated a board to use off the Board Trailer:

  • Take your board off the trailer
  • After washing, put your board back on the trailer
  • Put the straps back in the trailer

Keep Paddling!
