Rise-Up Camp caters for U17 youth members (those aged 15 and 16-years). This camp provides an opportunity for members to participate in a wide range of physical and social activities that will develop personal leadership skills. This year it was held in the SLSWA Development Centre in Margaret River and a few of our clubbies had the opportunity to attend.
Liesel Freebury U17 clubbie shares her experience...
For me, Rise Up Camp was a truly one-of-a-kind experience and I am extremely grateful that I was given the opportunity, along with fellow youth members Ashton Sobik, Mitchell Loverock and Oliver Pass, to attend the four day camp. This year the camp was hosted in the brand new surf life saving South West Development Centre located in Margaret River. We spent majority of the camp adventuring out into surrounding cliffs, beaches and landscapes taking part in all kinds of activities. Some of my favourite moments from these adventures included abseiling down a phenomenal 40-metre seaside cliff with the lovely view of dolphins and natural coastline, hiking 8 kilometres along the cape to cape trail, and navigating ocean currents and rocky coastline from in the water. I also enjoyed myself back at the main camp, where I was able to complete a first aid refresher course, engage in many sporting and team building activities as well as socialise with new found friends. This camp reminded me of how lucky I am to be a part of our amazing surf club community and just how lovely the people in our community can be. I will forever be grateful for and cherish the opportunity I was given to meet so many amazing people from all different clubs and I couldn’t recommend this camp to anyone else enough. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our clubs sponsors for making this camp possible, Surf Life Saving WA’s sponsors and the many volunteers both in our club and across WA that make amazing experiences like this one possible. Finally I want to thank Joslyn Pass (youth coordinator) and Danny Lynch (youth AGM) for all the effort and work they do for us.
A big thank you to ASLSC sponsors John & Janet Inglis for their support to send young members to valued Youth Development Programs.
