Albany SLSC Life Member: PERDITA BEEBE
Perdie has been an active member of Albany SLSC since October 1991 when she joined as a junior member. She has represented Albany SLSC as a junior, youth and senior competitor at local, regional and state surf lifesaving carnivals.
In 2001, Perdie was one of four WA surf lifesavers selected by SLSWA to attend the SLSA National Leadership and Development Camp in Lennox Head, NSW. She returned to the club ready to take on the role of Director of Administration the following season. Since then, Perdie has volunteered in almost every role within the club including:
Member Development/Services Team Leader – current role
Admin – Registrar, media & communications, member protection officer, club awards
Surf Sports – Board captain, points recorder, coach, team manager
Lifesaving – Patrol captain (249.92 career patrol hours), water safety
Club Health & Safety Officer
Junior delegate
Nipper Age Group Manager (6 years with the same age group)
Perdie has played a critical role in the governance and operational functions of the Club at times where the club experienced unprecedented growth, organisational restructures and redevelopments. Committee/Board positions that Perdie has held include:
2002 – 2003 Director of Administration
2003 – 2005 Director of Lifesaving
2014 – 2020 Director of Administration
2020 – 2022 Administration/Member Development Team Leader
Perdie’s commitment and dedication to club administration roles has supported the club to be where it is today. She has written nearly every nomination for club members in Club, State and community awards during these years. Her skills in capturing the outstanding achievements and service by our members in award nominations has resulted in the majority of nominations being successful. Perdie has produced a range of other club documents including the Annual Report for the past nine years and supported social events of the Club organising nine annual dinners. Perdie is also currently managing club communications overseeing Facebook and Instagram, ensuring members and the community are well informed about coming events and club activities.
Perdie has served SLSWA, volunteering her time as a Camp Leader for TOAD Camp (7 times) and RISE UP Camp (3 times) sharing her skills and knowledge that she has developed since she joined the club. In addition to this, she travelled throughout the Midwest and Wheatbelt regions to deliver three SLSWA Beach to Bush Surf Safety Programs.
In 2016, Perdie was awarded the SLSWA Administrator of the Year at the Awards of Excellence and was a finalist in the SLSWA Awards of Excellence AGL Volunteer of the Year in 2020. In May 2020, the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries awarded Perdie the 2019 Mike Stidwell Medal for her outstanding contribution to sport and recreation administration at Albany SLSC.
Perdie has volunteered thousands of hours to the Albany SLSC across all areas whilst at the same time being a wife to Alan, a mother to four daughters, assisting with running their family businesses, working and volunteering on other school and sporting committees.
