Ski & Board Storage Policy – Privately Owned Craft

Introduction

The Ski and Board storage rack areas at Albany SLSC are a limited and valuable resource for both club-owned and member-owned surf craft. Demand for ski/board storage continues to exceed available capacity. To ensure fair and equitable use, a formal application and allocation process has been established. This policy outlines the eligibility, application process, conditions, and ongoing obligations for members requesting craft storage.

Application Process

All members seeking ski/board rack storage must complete and submit the Ski/Board Storage Application Form. Submission of this form does not guarantee allocation, as storage is limited and can be highly competitive depending on member demand.

Applications will be reviewed by the Surf Sports Committee, and allocations will be made based on eligibility, contribution, and priority ranking.

Applicant Criteria

Applicants must meet the basic eligibility and priority ranking criteria to obtain a craft space:

• Be a current financial member of the Albany SLSC, or a Life Member.
• Hold a minimum qualification of SRC or Bronze Medallion (or higher).
• Be no more than 8 hours in arrears on patrol obligations.
• Be an active competitor in sanctioned SLSA craft events, representing the Club regularly.
• Attend club-sanctioned craft training sessions consistently (minimum once per week on average).
• Demonstrate active involvement in Club fundraising, including completion of allocated fundraising tasks/events.
• Contribute at least 10 volunteer hours per season to club operations (e.g., water safety, event support, coaching assistance, administration).
• Be actively contributing in other volunteer roles, such as coaching, officiating, or committee support.
• Be aged in the Senior to Masters category (priority will follow Senior > Master > Youth if applicable).
• Make other significant contributions to the Club’s activities and culture.

Allocation Terms & Conditions

1. Rack allocations are granted for a maximum of one season, with renewal subject to review.
2. A non-refundable annual fee for ski storage of $50 on invoice, within 30 days of approval, to the Albany SLSC Administration. If payment is not received within this time, the rack will be reallocated.
3. Members are entitled to ONE rack only, which must be used exclusively for their own approved craft.
4. Surf craft must comply with SLSA specifications (e.g. single/double surf ski/board). Non-compliant craft may be issued a formal notice and must be rectified or removed within 7 days. Exemptions will apply subject to demand.
5. The Surf Sports Captain, Coach, or Ski Captain reserves the right to prohibit the use of any unsafe or damaged craft during training and may request immediate removal if safety or compliance standards are not met.
6. Allocated racks must be clearly labelled with the member’s name, using tags provided by the Club.
7. Craft storage is non-transferable and cannot be assigned to other members.
8. The Club accepts no responsibility for loss, theft, or damage to any privately owned craft stored on-site.

Craft Storage Fees

NOTE: if payment is not received after a month of the application being approved the allocated craft space will be re-allocated to another pending member.

Ongoing Review 

Storage allocations will be reviewed regularly. Members who:

• Do not maintain regular training or competition attendance,
• Fail to meet volunteer or patrol commitments,
• Do not fulfil the minimum 10 volunteer hours, or otherwise not meet key eligibility criteria, may have their storage privileges withdrawn at the discretion of the Ski/Board Captain and Surf Sports Committee.

Any fees paid will be non-refundable, and the space will be reallocated to the next eligible applicant on the waitlist.

Annual Renewal Process

At the commencement of each membership year, current ski/board storage occupants will be contacted to confirm their intent to renew. Allocations will be renewed only if:

• All relevant fees have been paid in full,
• The member continues to meet applicable eligibility criteria.

Due to limited capacity, priority for ski/board storage will be decided using the eligibility criteria.  All applications are subject to review and final decision by the Surf Sports Committee.
