Youth Camp Feedback!

by | Tue, 15 Oct 2024 | General, Youth

So how DID the camp go? Let’s hear it from our Youth members in their own words:

“This is the first camp after several years of it not running and it was a great introduction to the Surf Lifesaving season, getting to know new people to the club, updating and learning new skills and working on team building. The skills we have learned and the memories we have made will be treasured for years to come, and I hope next year’s camp is just as enjoyable if not better”

And our favourite activities were:

  • “Going on the boards through Princess Royal Harbour as I like how calm it was, and I got to use one of the lifesaving boards”
  • “Friends and the Music”
  • “Foxholes because it was fun and good teamwork”
  • “Paddling boards and skis because it was new and fun”
  • “Team building activity-marshmallow and spaghetti challenge”
  • “The Cameron relay and learning the skis because water events are the most fun”
  • “Being with my friends and playing foxholes”
  • “The Skiing back from the beach to camp Q … it was very surreal and I had never been on a ski before”

Some of the lessons we learnt:

  • “You have to lift your hands up for compressions now”
  • ”To work as a team and how to do a sea search in a line”
  • ”To work as a team and how to lift a body”
  • ”How to do CPR properly”
  • ”Sacrifice is key in foxholes”
  • ”Being part of a community is much bigger than volunteering, you help people have fun and try their best”
  • ”The “new” way of doing CPR and why it has changed”
  • ”I learned the new CPR method which is great to know but difficult to implement”
  • ”How amazing the surf club is and how welcoming they are to everyone”

And when it came to changes or suggestions for future camps, the feedback was unanimous … make sure we bring the camp back next year, and make sure we make it BIGGER – go for longer so we can do more activities!   We throw this challenge out to the next organising committee for the 2025/26 season!

Many thanks to our very generous sponsors John and Janet Inglis for their support of this event.

Thanks also to the following local business and members who also supported the event :
