The Surf Craft Challenge returned with a bang on Sunday June 6 with a record number of over 250 competitors across all categories including Surf Boats (35), Surf Skis (45, including 7 Doubles), and the ever popular 2km Beach Run.
Albany SLSC again fielded a strong team and recorded a number of podium results, notably third place in the Whale Tail trophy event Open Men Boats (Special Boat Squad), third in the Open Ski (Nick Walker), third in the 160+ Women Boats (Fat Gannets), and Liesel Freebury finishing first over the line in the u/13 2km beach run.
The iconic coastal and harbour race course proved as popular amongst competitors, with crews travelling from Perth, Geraldton & Bunbury to enjoy the long weekend in Albany, competitive racing action and well-earned celebrations afterwards at the clubhouse.
Special thanks to the team of Albany SLC volunteers, Albany Sea Rescue and Denmark SLC water safety for assisting to deliver such a memorable event. Our generous event sponsors this year included a large number of Albany SLC members and loyal local businesses – thankyou for helping to make this event possible once again.
